Auto review: The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica minivan has much to admire

Given the choice of talentless cretins who populate the entertainment field and hold political office, I am more likely to admire the Japanese maple tree growing in my backyard. It's beautiful, and it brightens my day every time I look at it, offering far more comfort than I ever expected a plant could provide. So, when an ordinary object of the Clark Kent variety turns out to be Superman, you do want to admire it.

That certainly holds true for the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica Finally Gets an All-Wheel-Drive Model

Chrysler used to offer all-wheel-drive versions of its minivans, but that was way back in 2004. More recently, Toyota has had the AWD minivan market all to itself because its Sienna has been the only van available that sends power to all four wheels. For 2021, though, Chrysler is redesigning its Pacifica minivan, which will have an all-wheel-drive model again.

The all-wheel-drive option is only available on gas-powered Pacificas, not the hybrid. The AWD models can retain the Stow 'n Go rear seats, a huge storage advantage, despite the need for a three-piece driveshaft that connects the power transfer unit and the rear drive module.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica To Boast All-Wheel Drive, Updated Design?

Rumors of an all-wheel-drive Chrysler Pacifica have been swirling around the Internet for quite some time, but the 2020MY introduced earlier this year only brought changes to the trim levels and a new Red S Edition. If you want the minivan with an all-paw system, it looks like you’ll have to wait for the 2021MY as a report published by Mopar Insiders says the family hauler will finally send its power to both axles.

It is believed the AWD system will be largely inherited from the Jeep Renegade and Compass plug-in hybrids introduced back in March at the Geneva Motor Show with an electric motor powering the rear axle. The SUVs equipped with the eAWD system and a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine have a pure electric mode offering 31 miles (50 kilometers) of zero-emissions driving and up to 240 horsepower in the case of the Renegade PHEV.     Read more here at Motor1.com
